W. Davenport (Dav) Robertson is Professor of the Practice at the School of Information and Library Science, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, in the Metadata Research Center, he is a participant in DARI, the Data-At-Risk Initiative, a project of the CODATA Task Group, “Data At Risk.”  The goal of DARI is to create a Web-based inventory of valuable scientific data collections that are at risk of being lost to posterity, most commonly ones that are in non-digital formats.  A recent extension of DARI includes documented cases of data rescue efforts.  Before his appointment at UNC-CH, Mr. Robertson served many years as a government science librarian. notably as Chief, Library and Information Services, at the U. S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
