Pnina Shor

Israel Antiquities Authority
Curator & Head of Dead Sea Scrolls Projects
Jerusalem, Israel
In May 2010 the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) established a unit dedicated solely to the Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) – their curatorship, conservation, exhibition and first and foremost their digitization. Pnina Shor was nominated the head of this unit. Until then, for the last 15 years, Pnina was head of the Department for the Treatment and Conservation of Artifacts at the IAA. Among her responsibilities were the conservation laboratories of pottery, glass, stone, organic materials and metal artifacts, and the unique conservation laboratory dedicated to the conservation, preservation and exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls. She has worked for the IAA throughout her archaeological career - she began as a field archaeologist, continued with the scientific aspects of the processing of the material towards its scientific publication, and was involved in the publication and curation of the artifacts. When appointed head of the Conservation Department of Artifacts, she did a general course in the scientific principles of conservation as well. Dealing closely with the conservation, preservation and exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls, has roused her special interest in the Scrolls so she began a personal program towards a PhD on the DSS at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
