Getting through and around

Take into consideration that 1st of November is a public holiday in France. Busses, metro and tramway will follow the same timetables as on Sunday.

There are two ways to take a taxi in Marseille:

1. You can call one of these companies
Les taxis marseillais / Radio Marseille /

2. Or you can take a taxi at a taxi station ; it will be 2 euros cheaper than ordering by phone.
There are several taxi stations in the center of Marseille:VIEUX PORT (near McDonald’s)PLACE CASTELLANE (Castellane metro station)GARE ST. CHARLESCOURS JULIEN (Notre Dame du Mont metro station)

We recommend not taking a taxi at the airport to get to Marseille because the price will be around 50 euros. Instead, you could take a bus (Navette Aéroport – Gare St. Charles) to the main Marseille train station Gare St. Charles, which will cost you only 8,5 euros.
The average taxi fare within the city center costs about 10-12 euros.

There are several car renting agencies located in different districts of Marseille, offering different types of vehicles for different prices:

EUROPCAR – www.europcar.fr
RENT A CAR – www.rentacar.fr
AUTO EUROPE – www.auto-europe.co.uk
RENT-A-CAR – www.rent-a-car.eu
AUTO ESCAPE – www.autoescape.com
SIXT – www.sixt.co.uk
THRIFTY CAR RENTAL – www.thrifty.com
BUDGET – www.budgetinternational.com

All these agencies have offices in the Marseille Provence Airport, where you can rent a car directly after your flight.

Marseille public transport company, the « Régie des Transports de Marseille » (RTM) consists in 2 subway lines, 2 tramway lines and 74 bus lines. If you have any mobility problems, are in a wheel chair or have a child in a push chair, you should be aware that almost every metro station has steps in it somewhere and some will have several flights of stairs – stick to the trams and buses which are a better option.

You can buy a one-trip ticket which costs 1,5 euro each time you use the public transport.Or you can buy 1-day pass, which is better, if you travel a lot.

For all necessary information about RTM tariffs and agencies, please download the « Pass Transport 2013 » brochure. For further information please visit the RTM website.
